Notre Dame Football Star Has A Chip On His Shoulder For Texas Am

Notre Dame Football Star Aiming to Prove Himself Against Texas A&M

Chip on His Shoulder: Mayer Ready to Face Aggies

Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer is determined to prove his worth against Texas A&M after being overlooked by the Aggies in the recruiting process.

Mayer, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end from Kentucky, was one of the top recruits in the country coming out of high school. He was ranked as the No. 1 tight end and the No. 20 overall player in the 2021 class by 247Sports. Despite his impressive resume, Mayer was not offered a scholarship by Texas A&M.

Mayer ended up committing to Notre Dame, where he has quickly become one of the best tight ends in the country. In his first two seasons with the Fighting Irish, Mayer has caught 68 passes for 844 yards and 10 touchdowns.

This season, Mayer is looking to take his game to the next level. He is the leading receiver for Notre Dame, with 25 catches for 349 yards and four touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
