WEB Tropical Storm Alberto has caused an estimated $125 million in damage in the Gulf Coast of the United States, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm, which was reclassified from a subtropical storm to a tropical storm on May 28, is the first named storm of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.
Alberto made landfall near Laguna Beach, Florida, on May 29, bringing with it heavy rains and strong winds. The storm caused flooding, downed trees, and power lines, and damaged homes and businesses. No injuries or deaths have been reported.
The National Hurricane Center is forecasting that Alberto will continue to move north-northeast over the next few days, bringing heavy rain to northeast Mexico and the south-central United States. The storm is expected to weaken to a post-tropical cyclone by Sunday.
